Praia, Jun 12 (Inforpress) - The African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV, opposition) today questioned the Government for failing to collect 66 percent (%) of taxes in the Praia Customs services, representing a loss of 61 thousand contos.

João do Carmo's criticism came during a debate with the Minister of Finance and Digital Economy, Olavo Correia, proposed by the Movement for Democracy (MpD, ruling party).

According to João do Carmo, these figures are contained in a report by the Anti-Fraud Inspectorate, which carried out a three-week inspection of Praia's customs services in April this year.

"There is an average under-invoicing of 66 per cent in this period. A figure of more than 61 thousand contos. The government fails to invoice 66 per cent in a period of three weeks. If we extrapolate this period over the course of the year and over the time you've been in government, we're talking about millions of contos, which the government fails to invoice due to the incapacity of the services you oversee, ‘he said, stressing that this shows the ’incapacity of the government".
