Observatory strengthens partnership with African immigrants for early identification of cases of human trafficking

Praia, Aug 27 (Inforpress) – The president of the National Human Trafficking Observatory (ONTP), José Luiz Vaz, stated today, in Praia, that the institution aims to be closer to the communities to guarantee early identification of eventual cases of human trafficking.

The official was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the signing of a cooperation protocol with the Platform of African Communities Residing in Cabo Verde, focused on strengthening the participation of civil society and migrants in the prevention and combating of this phenomenon.

“We know that immigration does not in itself mean human trafficking, but we intend to strengthen the protection network for victims who are in a vulnerable situation due to lack of information, documentation or dependency,” said José Luiz Vaz.

The agreement provides for the training of members of the migrant communities themselves to recognize warning signs and facilitate access to reliable information, serving as a bridge of trust between the authorities and foreign citizens in the archipelago.
