Praia, May 16 (Inforpress) - A new musical formation is emerging on the Cape Verdean traditional music scene, bringing together members of the Strong and Bulimundo groups, with the aim of honouring Carlos Alberto Martins ‘Katchás’ and giving new life to traditional funaná.
The starting point for the project was the recording of the music video for the song ‘Horas kin bai djam bai’, last Saturday 10th, in Praça de Katchás, in Santa Cruz, the birthplace of the mythical group ‘Os Bulimundos’, eternalised by their mentor, which led to the square being considered the cradle of funaná's transformation from the countryside to the city and the world.
The song, written by Zé António Sanches, who lives in France, and produced by Kim Alves in the United States, tells the story of a woman who resorts to witchcraft to destroy her partner, but to no avail.
According to Inforpress, the band's leader, Benvas d'Strong, the narrative mixes cultural and religious elements and is interpreted with soul, in the manner of traditional funaná.
