Praia, April 6 (Inforpress) – The Multisectoral Commission of the National Coordination Body of the “One Health” Approach held another strategic meeting today to align Cabo Verde's responses to health and environmental challenges.

In statements to Inforpress, the president of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP), Maria da Luz Lima, stated that the body meets in bimonthly sessions to analyze cross-cutting themes that unite human, animal, and environmental health.

He highlighted the control of swine fever in São Nicolau, the shigellosis situation in Sal, and the growing concern about the proliferation of rats in Santiago.

“One of the central points on the agenda was the update on African swine fever on the island of São Nicolau. According to the authorities of the Directorate-General for Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock (DGASP), the situation is under control,” he emphasized, highlighting that the focus is on implementing communication and alert strategies to prevent the spread of the virus to other islands in the archipelago.
