Mosteiros: The municipality continues to lose population and now has fewer than eight thousand residents

City of Igreja, Mosteiros, August 17 (Inforpress) – The municipality of Mosteiros, on the island of Fogo, continues to register a reduction in its resident population, going from 8,119 inhabitants in 2024 to 7,941 in 2025, a decrease of 178 people, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The statistical data, released on the occasion of the Municipality Day of Mosteiros, celebrated on August 15th, indicate that the resident population in the municipality is currently 7,941 people, with 50.6% (%) being male and 49.4% female.

Demographic trends confirm the population decline observed in the municipality, which had 8,119 inhabitants in 2024.

In just one year, Mosteiros lost 178 residents, equivalent to a reduction of about 2.2% of the population.
