Praia, 2 September (Inforpress) – Health Minister Jorge Figueiredo today stressed the need for African countries to strengthen domestic funding for public health and prepare for health challenges following the US withdrawal from the WHO.
This need was identified during the 75th session of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa, held from 25 to 27 August in Lusaka, Zambia, with the Minister of Health participating as a panellist.
At a press conference in Praia to assess the country's participation in the regional committee, Jorge Figueiredo revealed that one of the central points of the meeting was to reflect on the sustainability mechanisms of health systems in African countries, especially after the departure of the United States.
A scenario, he warned, that demonstrates the urgency of reducing external dependence and strengthening domestic investment in health.
