Praia, Feb 19 (Inforpress) – The Mayor of Brockton, Cape Verdean-born Moisés Rodrigues, stated today that he is “closely monitoring” the new US immigration law and assured support to the resident community through clear information and measures to mitigate potential negative impacts.

In an interview with Inforpress from the United States, Moisés Rodrigues noted that immigration policies form part of complex national decisions, but argued that it is important to maintain a balance between security, organisation and fair access to travel opportunities.

“We are closely monitoring the temporary suspension of immigrant visas for Cape Verdean citizens,” he said, acknowledging that this measure may affect families and relations between the local community and the United States.

He emphasised that family reunification is essential for family stability and that the suspension may delay or hinder reunification between residents in the US and their relatives in Cabo Verde.
