Praia, Apr 20 (Inforpress) – Cape Verdean karateka Anilton Varela, from the “En Tout K. Villemomble” school under sensei Filinto Moniz, retained this Sunday his French krava maga title in free combat while also becoming French champion in free fighting.
At the 2026 French Krav Maga Championship, held on Saturday the 18th and today in Malakoff, on the outskirts of Paris, Anilton Varela once again excelled at the highest level, not only defending last year’s title in the +89 kg category in combat and defence (knife and stick), but also in free fighting in the hexagon.
Anilton Varela, who began practising martial arts at the age of six at the Cape Verdean Karate Centre under sensei Narciso Mascarenhas, only started competing between the ages of 17 and 18.
He later joined the national team, competed in several African countries and, already in Europe, resumed training with sensei Filinto Moniz, who encouraged him to persevere.
