Praia, 14 September (Inforpress) – Manuel Gomes was elected president of the Cape Verdean Cycling Federation (FCC) this Sunday with nine votes in favour, in an election in which nine of the 11 affiliated sports associations took part.
Speaking to Inforpress after the election, the new FCC leader set out his priority objectives as the decentralisation of the sport, recruiting new talent from schools, and improving the image of cycling through partnerships with the Institute of Sport and Youth (IDJ), local authorities and other institutions.
The new president also intends to broaden the perception of cycling's role in society by linking the sport to areas such as the environment, tourism, and the promotion of values.
To attract more young people and identify new talent, Manuel Gomes is focusing on raising the profile of cycling through initiatives in schools and with local councils.
