Maio: The Festival of Moreia (Moray eel) attracts hundreds of people to Calheta and boosts the local economy – local merchants

Porto Inglês, August 24 (Inforpress) – The eighth edition of the Moreia Festival, which ended on Sunday the 23rd, mobilized hundreds of people to the village of Calheta, including residents, visitors and merchants, contributing to boosting the local economy and culture.

The festival, held on Baxona Beach, was attended by traders and fishmongers from the islands of Maio and Santiago, who took the opportunity to sell morey and other products in an atmosphere filled with food, music and socialising.

Trader Ângela Furtado, who traveled from the island of Santiago to participate in the festival, highlighted the activity recorded during the two days and considered the opportunity for commercialization positive.

“It’s a good initiative; it always attracts people from other places – not just visitors, but traders as well,” she said, highlighting the volume of sales recorded during the event.
