Maio: Santa Cruz and Tabanka Festival continues with cultural programme

Porto Inglês, Apr 16 (Inforpress) – The island of Maio is hosting, until May 10, the traditional Santa Cruz and Tabanka Festival, featuring a diverse programme that includes cultural, sporting and religious activities.

Following the start of festivities in early April, the programme continues with the traditional “door-to-door drum”, which travels across various localities on the island, bringing the spirit of tabanka to communities.

Among the main activities are the friendship bonfire, discussion circles, screenings of documentaries on tabanka, as well as the closing of the drum cycle and a mini batuque festival with participation from groups from Maio and Santiago.

The programme also includes sports tournaments, live music performances, cultural moments and the traditional “cotchida”, one of the highlights of the celebrations.
