Porto Inglês, May 6 (Inforpress) - The lack of qualified labour has affected the construction and catering industries on the island of Maio, largely due to the departure of young people from the island and the lack of professional training for those who remain.
According to contractor Henrique Adrião, his company has faced ‘frequent difficulties’ due to a lack of suitably trained professionals, which directly affects the pace of work.
‘We've been short of qualified bricklayers, carpenters and plumbers, we're short of electricians and even drivers, which sometimes ends up hampering the progress of building work,’ he lamented.
In the tourism sector, the situation is no different and businessman Ricci Matia said that the labour shortage has affected both customer service and catering.
