Porto Inglês, 18 September (Inforpress) – The Minister of Economy, Trade, Industry and Digital Transition, António Baptista, stated on Thursday that the Government will focus on the primary sector to boost Maio’s economy, following alleged “neglect” by the previous administration.
Speaking to the press following meetings with fishermen and fishmongers and a visit to the Maio agricultural and livestock market, the minister gave assurances that the Government is working to “unlock” the island’s economic development and improve families’ living conditions.
“We are going to revive the primary sector that the previous government stifled. We believe that agriculture, livestock farming and fisheries, together with industry and the development of tourism, can unlock the island’s development,” he said.
António Baptista highlighted the economic potential of Maio, arguing that the industrialisation of the primary sector, combined with activities related to salt and coal, could reduce losses, add value to production and increase household incomes.
