Praia, Jan 19 (Inforpress) – The Cape Verdean national handball team departs today to Rwanda competing in CAN2026, following a training camp in Portugal, with the squad finalised and preparations secured for Africa’s main continental competition.
Speaking to Inforpress, the president of the Cape Verdean Handball Federation, Ângela Almeida, said the men’s national team call-up reflects the federation’s confidence in the group’s competitive capacity for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).
According to the official, preparations that began on December 26 helped consolidate a team with “experienced, disciplined and committed” players aligned with the national team’s objectives, selected through a process led by the national technical staff, headed by Serbian coach Ljubomir Obradovic.
She explained that the selection process went through several stages, starting with a broader group of athletes and gradually narrowing down to the final list of 18 players who will represent Cabo Verde in the continental competition.
