City Praia, Feb 09 (Inforpress) – The “Cabo Verde 100% LED” project has entered its physical implementation phase, with works underway since 03 February 2025, involving an investment of 320 thousand contos and the installation of 43,342 public lighting units.

In a statement sent to Inforpress, the Government said works began on the island of Santiago with nine teams on the ground, with project completion scheduled for the end of May, focusing on technological modernisation, energy efficiency, enhanced public safety and environmental protection.

Within this framework, the island of Brava has become the first to achieve 100% public lighting coverage using LED technology, serving as a practical and symbolic reference for implementation across the remaining islands.

The project foresees the installation of 43,342 public luminaires, of which 36,312 are for replacing obsolete sodium and mercury vapour lamps, while 7,030 correspond to network expansion, bringing lighting to previously unserved areas.
