Experts advocate studying colonial daily life to understand impacts of repression

Assomada, 16 Mar (Inforpress) –Today the International experts advocated, in the city of Assomada, the need to deepen the study of daily life during the colonial period and to understand the mechanisms of control and repression of populations.

These statements were made במסגרת the workshop “Dictatorship, institutions and colonialism”, promoted by UNESCO, at the University of Cabo Verde campus in Assomada.

Speaking to the press, University of Geneva professor Alexander Keese stated that Portuguese colonialism had “profound impacts” on populations, marked by discrimination and repression, and defended the importance of analysing these realities to better understand historical complexity.

According to the academic, in the case of Cabo Verde, these impacts include transformations in rural areas and the effects of famines, elements that help explain the social dynamics of the period.
