Praia, May 22 (Inforpress) - The national director of the Environment, Ethel Rodrigues, highlighted today that the preservation of biodiversity guarantees a better quality of life, stressing that climate change represents the biggest challenge for Cabo Verde in this matter.

“By protecting life, the different forms of life, plants, in the different forms in which we have them, we are also preserving and improving our quality of life,” he said, in statements to Inforpress, at the central event commemorating the International Day for Biological Diversity.

This year's event is being celebrated under the slogan ‘Harmony with nature and sustainable development’ at Eco Paraíso, in Ribeirão Chiqueiro, on the island of Santiago.

According to her, the National Directorate for the Environment, in partnership with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the National Institute for Agricultural Research and Development (INIDA), has been monitoring biodiversity on several of the country's islands.
