Praia, Sept. 18 (Inforpress) – The National Secretariat for Climate Action stated today that Cabo Verde lacks the “high-level technical” capacity to respond to climate change, suggesting the strengthening of institutional capacities.
“We need to strengthen this capacity at the institutional level and, above all, reinforce the ability to mobilize additional resources that are out there—that are accessible—but which we have not yet been able to secure as we would like due to the fragility of our capabilities,” stated Alexandre Rodrigues, of the National Secretariat for Climate Action.
At the opening of the meeting of the Steering Committee for climate action projects—convened to review two initiatives addressing climate change—the same source indicated that two projects slated for implementation would be analyzed this morning: strengthening the climate governance framework in Cabo Verde and planning climate action at the local level.
As noted, the governance project will help the country improve its climate policy instruments, support capacity building for public institutions—enabling them to better address the issue of climate change—and empower these institutions to integrate climate action into their sectoral plans.
