Praia, Apr 15 (Inforpress) - The Bank of Cabo Verde (BCV) announced today that it will put into circulation new 1,000 and 2,000 notes that are safer and have innovative details, and whose denominations remain aligned with the characteristics of the 2014 family of notes.

In a statement, the BCV explains that the design of the notes will remain similar, with the 1,000 escudo note remembering the late composer and performer of funaná Codé di Dona, and the 2,000 note paying homage to Cesária Évora, the “Barefoot Diva”, considered an ambassador of morna.

The new notes arise from the central bank's decision to reinforce the stock of the 2014 family of notes in circulation and to improve some features, “aiming to incorporate technological advances that provide greater security and durability, and make it easy to recognition of the integrity when handled by the public”.

According to the same source, the new 1,000 and 2,000 escudos banknotes, which will be distributed to the public via credit institutions, will circulate at the same time as the current banknotes, i.e. they both have ‘discharge power’ and must be accepted as means of payment.
