Mindelo, Dec 17 (Inforpress) – Blue Economy specialist Gunter Pauli said today in Mindelo that Cabo Verde has the conditions to produce 100,000 tonnes of hydrogen and sell it to ships travelling between Europe and the United States.

Gunter Pauli was speaking during a visit to the Mindelo Cruise Port, as part of the project “Portfolio of Opportunities for the Islands of Cabo Verde”, developed under an agreement between his company, Blue Innovation, and Enapor.

According to the expert, the possibility of producing 100,000 tonnes of hydrogen using wind and wave energy represents enormous potential that had not previously been identified, as Cabo Verde could ensure supply to large vessels transiting the Atlantic.

“The main customers are the local population, first and foremost. But secondly, hydrogen is to be sold to the world’s major transport and shipping companies. Today, everyone is looking for an alternative to diesel, and hydrogen is considered one of the greatest opportunities, but the problem is that it is not available,” he explained.
