Boa Vista: Povoação Velha residents report landfill smoke and demand ‘health screening’
11/02/26 - 02:15 pm

Sal Rei, Feb 11 (Inforpress) – Residents of Povoação Velha, on Boa Vista island, today again reported alleged health problems caused by smoke from burnings at the municipal landfill in Sal Rei, demanding that authorities conduct a “health screening” of the population.

Speaking to the press, they described “an unbearable situation”, worsened by wind direction carrying the smoke directly into the locality, affecting around 70 families.

Adilson Lopes, a local resident, said the smoke is visible and enters homes, contaminating food and clothing.

“There are days when the house is engulfed. We have children and adults suffering from this unbearable smell and there is no protection,” he lamented, calling for urgent action by the Boa Vista Municipal Council.
