Basketball/2027 World Cup: Cabo Verde lose to hosts Tunisia in their opening match

Praia, 28 August (Inforpress) – The Cape Verdean national basketball team made their debut on Thursday with a 56–60 defeat against hosts Tunisia in a match from the fourth window of the African qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar.

According to information from the Cape Verdean Basketball Federation, “in an extremely closely fought match in Radès, decided by the smallest of margins, the Blue Sharks were beaten by Tunisia 60–56”, with the quarter scores at 11–16, 24–08, 10–11 and 15–21.

The match against Tunisia marks the start of Cabo Verde’s campaign in this fourth qualifying window, which runs from today until Sunday 30th at 14:00 CV in Tunis (Tunisia), and pits two teams from Group E of the African qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup in Qatar against each other.

Cabo Verde will play three matches during this international break, starting today against Tunisia, followed by Guinea-Conakry on Friday and Nigeria on Sunday.
