Russian ambassador regrets Cabo Verde’s political distancing and hopes for relaunch of bilateral relations

Praia, May 25 (Inforpress) – Yury Materiy, the Russia’s ambassador to Cabo Verde, today expressed hope for a relaunch of bilateral relations between the two countries, lamenting the political distancing recorded in recent years despite the current international geopolitical context.

The statements were made to the press following a farewell audience with the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, as the diplomat concludes his three-and-a-half-year mission in the country and returns to Moscow this Tuesday.

According to the ambassador, the visit was a farewell meeting and also served to address the state of relations between the two countries and future prospects for bilateral cooperation.

Addressing the current framework of diplomatic relations, Yury Materiy stressed that Russia maintains economic, political and humanitarian cooperation ties with several African countries, but noted that relations with Cabo Verde remain below expectations.
