Praia, May 5 (Inforpress) – The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) is promoting training in field epidemiology with the aim of addressing the shortage of qualified professionals in this area and strengthening the country’s response to public health events.

The initiative, according to epidemiologist Janilza Silva of INSP, is part of the Field Epidemiology Training Programme, an international approach focused on the practical training of professionals involved in health surveillance.

According to the official, the training follows the “One Health” model, involving human, animal and environmental sectors, and brings together participants from areas such as health services, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Armed Forces and the National Police.

“This training aims to address the lack of field epidemiologists in the country. The initial objective is to train individuals to recognise risk situations, compile and analyse data, and forward it to competent leadership, enabling evidence-based decision-making,” she stated.
