Nova Sintra, 28 April (Inforpress) – Psychologist Auta Rocha today called, on the island of Brava, for the establishment of a centre and an organisation dedicated to providing support and protection for women who are victims of gender-based violence (GBV) and sexual abuse.

Speaking to Inforpress, Auta Rocha, who lives in the United States and is currently visiting her homeland, accompanied by other members of the Cape Verdean association in Boston, said that the group had also held meetings with women’s rights organisations on the island of Santiago.

As he explained, during his stay he was in contact with a number of people, with whom he discussed issues relating to domestic violence and sexual abuse.

“I felt sad because I was talking to a young woman who had been abused years ago by her stepfather and, as a result, had a child by him. She told me she stayed in that situation because, at the time, she had no one to turn to and nowhere else to go,” she said.
