São Filipe, 28 April (Inforpress) – On the evening of Monday 27, a joint team comprising the Health Department, the local council and the National Police carried out an inspection of the food and drink stalls set up inside and around Praça do Presídio.
The initiative aims to prevent cases of food poisoning and stop the sale of products whose use-by dates have expired, as was the case last year.
According to São Filipe’s Health Officer, Leidy Spínola, the inspections cover not only licensed stalls but also informal vendors selling food such as pork sandwiches in the vicinity of Praça do Presídio, the main venue for cultural activities during the São Filipe Municipality Day and Flag Day celebrations.
In addition to the inspection, the initiative has a strong focus on raising awareness, with the authorities reminding vendors of the importance of storing and handling food correctly, and of wearing gloves and hairnets, in order to prevent contamination.
