Espargos, 28 April (Inforpress) – The 9th National Congress on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) kicked off today in Sal, focusing on the need for greater public and corporate awareness to reduce the number of fatal accidents in Cabo Verde.
The event, organised by the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (ISSO) under the ILO’s slogan ‘How’s work?’, marks the World Day of Remembrance for Victims of Occupational Accidents and National Occupational Safety and Health Day, bringing together national and international experts to discuss risk management and dignity at work.
Speaking to the press, the president of ISSO, João de Carvalho, expressed concern about the country’s accident statistics, emphasising that the aim of the meeting is to raise awareness amongst the Government, employers, trade unions and civil society regarding the promotion of a safe and dignified working environment.
“Our concern is precisely with the situation in the country and the number of fatal accidents that have been recorded in Cabo Verde. This worries us, and that is why we have been working to raise awareness amongst all stakeholders,” he said.
