Sal Island: Residents denounce “double standards” in urban planning and neglected infrastructure

Espargos, Apr 22 (Inforpress) – The sixth ordinary session of the Sal Municipal Assembly, taking place today, was marked by complaints from residents regarding alleged urban planning irregularities, lack of oversight and the state of neglect of sports infrastructure.

During the period before the agenda, dedicated to public interventions, citizen Júlio Rendall expressed “indignation” at what he described as “urban justice of convenience”.

The resident reported that his request for construction works at his home was denied, while in other parts of the island larger developments proceed without impediments.

“I am compelled to point out clear cases of double standards, perhaps even more serious ones, with no intervention whatsoever from the municipality, the Technical Office and its inspectors,” Rendall stated, citing alleged violations of the Municipal Master Plan (PDM) in Santa Maria, Chã de Matias and Bairro Novo II.
