Praia, April 9 (Inforpress) – The Director-General of the Senegalese Shippers Council (Cosec) stated today that phytosanitary requirements and the need to guarantee cargo volume continue to be the main obstacles to intensifying trade between Senegal and Cabo Verde.
Ndeye Thiam spoke to the press after a meeting with the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, as part of a Senegalese business mission taking place in Praia from the 7th to the 11th of this month.
As he explained, despite the "strong political will" shown by both governments, trade relations between the two countries still depend on resolving technical issues related to the entry of agricultural products and the creation of a regular maritime link between Dakar and Praia.
Ndeye Thiam indicated that Senegal intends to export consumer goods to Cabo Verde, such as potatoes, onions, tomatoes, carrots, mangoes, melons, watermelons, fish products, and processed peanut-based products, but warned that these goods are subject to sanitary requirements that still need to be harmonized.
