Praia, April 7 (Inforpress) – The president of the Chamber of Tourism today appealed to the responsibility of national media outlets in amplifying false or decontextualized news about the sector, stating that it could harm the country's image.
Jorge Spencer Lima was reacting at a press conference in Praia to recent international news reports about cases of gastrointestinal infections associated with the Shigella bacteria.
The information refers to alleged deaths of tourists from the United Kingdom after stays in Cape Verde.
At the time, the official reiterated that "there is no epidemic outbreak of gastrointestinal infections in the country," adding that recent international news has contributed to "disproportionate alarmism" about the situation
