São Vicente: Number of autism cases increases in health services due to greater awareness – speech therapist

Mindelo, April 2 (Inforpress) – Cases of children with autism are being diagnosed more and more frequently in healthcare services in São Vicente, a result of years of awareness-raising work, speech therapist Ema Soares assured today.

The specialist made this statement to the press during a talk on “Autism and early diagnosis”, organised by the São Vicente Health Centre to mark World Autism Awareness Day, which is observed today

Ema Soares stated that the increase in the number of children diagnosed with autism in health services does not necessarily mean a higher incidence of the disorder, but rather reflects ongoing efforts to raise awareness and sensitize society.

According to her, the date should serve as a moment of reflection on the practices adopted, the monitoring of children, and strategies to improve patient care.
