Santa Maria, 26 Mar (Inforpress) – The director of the National Centre for Art, Crafts and Design (CNAD) today advocated, in Santa Maria, the creation of a reference cultural facility and a permanent sales point to promote authentic handicrafts among tourists.
At the opening of the first edition of the Crafts and Design Fair (Urdi) on Sal Island, after ten years held exclusively in São Vicente, Artur Marçal highlighted that this “transition” to the country’s most touristic island is strategic for the internationalization of the “Created in Cabo Verde” brand.
“The temporary nature of the fair requires us to be assertive, leading us to consider the need for a local sales point where our artisans can continuously and more effectively display and sell their products,” stated the CNAD director.
Artur Marçal challenged the authorities present to convert the current local museum into a multifunctional cultural facility. The proposal aims to provide Santa Maria with a space that integrates museums, a performance hall, art galleries, artist residencies, a library, a shop, and a café.
