Boa Vista: Government approves 15 million euro agreement for water and sanitation project

Sal Rei, 17 Mar (Inforpress) – The Government approved a 15 million euro credit agreement with UniCredit Bank Austria AG to finance the wastewater treatment and irrigation system on the island of Boa Vista.

The approval of the credit, amounting to approximately 1.6 million contos, is set out in Decree No. 2/2026, published in Series I of the Official Gazette on 16 March, and follows the agreement signed between the Ministry of Finance and the Austrian banking institution.

The project, entitled “Wastewater Treatment, Collection, Distribution and Irrigation System of Boa Vista Island”, is considered a structuring initiative and aims, according to the executive, to strengthen water security and climate resilience on the island, with impacts on social, economic and environmental sectors.

Particular emphasis is placed on the construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) with a capacity of 2,500 cubic metres per day.
