Middle East Conflict: Economist proposes strategic forum on the country’s foreign policy and diplomacy

City of Praia, 06 Mar (Inforpress) – Economist José Luís Neves today advocated the holding of a strategic forum on Cabo Verde’s foreign policy and diplomacy, with the aim of ensuring that the archipelago maintains its weight and influence in a changing international environment.

Speaking to Inforpress regarding the impact of the conflict in the Middle East on the national economy, the specialist argued that the country must rethink its external positioning in light of the new configuration of the global architecture, otherwise risking the compromise of its international relevance.

José Luís Neves warned of the transition from a unipolar system to a multipolar world, marked by the fragmentation of value chains, the weakening of multilateral institutions and growing competition among major powers.

For the former secretary-general of the Sotavento Chamber of Commerce, the recent increase in the price of Brent crude oil, driven by instability in the Middle East, could trigger an “inflationary shock” in Cabo Verde due to the country’s strong dependence on energy imports.
