Espargos, Feb 12 (Inforpress) – The Prime Minister stated Wednesday in Sal that the inauguration of the new Power Plant and Battery Energy Storage System marks a structural step towards strengthening stability, security and quality of electricity supply amid growing demand.

Presiding over the official inauguration ceremony, Ulisses Correia e Silva underlined that the investments fulfil the Government’s programme for the energy sector, aligned with clear targets for energy transition and expanded generation capacity.

According to the head of Government, energy demand on Sal Island has increased by around 60% since 2016, driven mainly by tourism growth and new investments across various sectors, placing significant pressure on installed capacity.

He emphasised that the Government has been implementing “structural solutions with a medium- and long-term vision”, combining more efficient thermal generation with a substantial expansion of renewable energy sources.
