Government establishes five annual national literary awards to strengthen literary creation

Praia, Feb 12 (Inforpress) – The Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries will establish five annual literary awards to distinguish original works of recognised quality, Minister Augusto Veiga announced today in Praia.

At a press conference, the minister said the initiative aims to promote national culture and written literary heritage, stimulate and support literary creation, foster a love of reading, encourage creative writing and unveil new talent.“The awarding of these literary prizes will contribute to the appreciation and enrichment of Cape Verde’s written literary heritage, as well as to exalt our literature and our writers and poets,” he stressed.

With the establishment of these awards, he added, the Government intends to safeguard the country’s cultural identity and respond to the need for greater incentives for the production of unpublished works.
