Porto Novo: Ministry of Agriculture reiterates new use for former fumigation centre

Porto Novo, Jan 23 (Inforpress) – The former fumigation centre in Porto Novo, Santo Antão, deactivated six months ago, will be “properly utilised” by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, with a view to assigning “another use” to the facility.

The assurance was given by the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, during a parliamentary question on the agricultural sector raised by the opposition African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) on Thursday, the 22nd.

The closure of the facility, following the inauguration of the new Santo Antão fumigation centre at Porto Novo harbour in July, has concerned local farmers, who have requested that the Government allocate the building for an agricultural cooperative.

Without providing details, Gilberto Silva said the former agricultural inspection centre in Porto Novo will be repurposed.
