Porto Novo, Jan 20 (Inforpress) – The Association of Farmers of Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, in the municipality of Porto Novo, Santo Antão, once again today called for the rehabilitation of hydro-agricultural infrastructure in that valley, damaged during the floods that occurred in 2025.
The association’s president, Manuel Jesus Évora, told Inforpress that the main concern relates to the condition of the water intake and irrigation channel from the Mãe de Água spring to the Covão area.
The Mãe de Água intake and channel, considered vital hydro-agricultural infrastructure for agriculture in Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, have suffered significant damage due to flooding, causing concern among farmers.
The delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in the municipality of Porto Novo had recently reassured farmers that the ministry has contracted a company to carry out rehabilitation works on agricultural infrastructure in that locality.
