Tarrafal, Jan 09 (Inforpress) – The Chão-Bom Civic Association inaugurated today, with Government support, the Chão-Bom Senior Citizens’ Community Centre, aimed at promoting active ageing, combating social isolation and improving quality of life.

The centre, established by the Chão-Bom Civic Association, was fully funded by the Government as part of its policy to support social facilities for the elderly population.

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony, the Minister for Family, Inclusion and Social Development, Fernando Elísio Freire, said the new facility reflects the Government’s proximity-based policy in caring for older persons, enabling greater social interaction and a more dignified and humane ageing process.

The minister noted that the centre provides daily support to around 50 elderly people and offers social, recreational and psychosocial support activities, helping to mitigate social isolation, one of the main challenges faced by the elderly population.
