Sal Rei, Jan 09 (Inforpress) – The Government of Cabo Verde and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg approved on Thursday, in Boa Vista, the 2026 activity plan of the Energy Transition Support Programme, in a landmark meeting that reinforced funding to €18 million.

The fifth meeting of the Steering Committee (COPIL), held for the first time in a decentralized manner in Boa Vista, was described by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy, Alexandre Monteiro, as “historic” and decisive for consolidating the archipelago’s energy autonomy.

Speaking to the press, the minister explained that the 2026 plan focuses on activities with a “very strong social impact,” highlighting the expansion of the social electricity tariff through more efficient mechanisms for including vulnerable families.

Alexandre Monteiro also pointed to priorities such as the development of microgrids in isolated communities and support for the strategic “Pump & Storage” project in Santiago, which he described as fundamental to “national energy security.”
