Kavita Shah to release “Miss Perfumado” in tribute to morna and Cesária Évora

Mindelo, 18 December (Inforpress) – American jazz singer and composer Kavita Shah will release the song and music video “Miss Perfumado” on 26 December, offering an intimate interpretation that pays tribute to morna and the legacy of Cesária Évora.

According to a statement from the artist’s press office sent to Inforpress, the release stems from an artistic collaboration begun in 2016 between Shah and Cape Verdean master guitarist Bau, following “years of in-depth research” into traditional Cape Verdean music.

The collaboration led to the critically acclaimed album Cape Verdean Blues, composed of traditional mornas and coladeiras, released in 2023 as a tribute to Cesária Évora and Cape Verde.

The music video was filmed outdoors in São Vicente during a break in the singer’s tour, capturing a spontaneous and informal moment among the musicians.
