Maio: President Encourages Local Clubs to Organise Regional Football Championship

Porto Inglês, Dec 11 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic on Wednesday encouraged football clubs on the island of Maio to organise the regional championship and make use of local capacities to boost sports development.

José Maria Neves met with sports leaders in Porto Inglês to learn about the island’s football landscape, which has been unable to host regional competitions for the second consecutive year.

On the occasion, the Head of State said the island has the necessary conditions and talent to resume sporting activities, urging associations and clubs to prioritise solutions and set clear goals.

“I wanted this meeting precisely to encourage you to organise the championship. We must focus not on the problems but on the solutions, and we need to set clear objectives. Maio has talent and considerable potential,” he said.
