São Vicente: National Absolute Chess Championship Features 24 Competitors

Mindelo, Dec 10 (Inforpress) – The National Absolute Individual Chess Championship is underway in São Vicente, with 24 competitors from Cabo Verde and members of the Cape verdeandiaspora living in Portugal, Spain, and Italy.

Speaking to Inforpress, Manuel Medina of the Cape verdeanChess Federation said the competition is running smoothly, with “excellent participation” from high-level players and a strong spirit of fair play.

“This championship includes all chess associations in Cabo Verde, except the islands of Boa Vista, Brava, and Maio, which do not have associations, and Fogo, which has one but was unable to participate. There are also players from Portugal, Spain, and Italy,” he explained.

He added that the tournament follows the Swiss system, featuring nine rounds, with competitors not knowing in advance whom they will face.
