Praia, 21 Nov (Inforpress) – The Minister of Internal Administration said today, in Praia, that the areas affected by the rains on the 13th and 14th in Santiago North recorded rainfall levels above the island’s and national averages.
Paulo Rocha, providing an overview of the events, stressed that in Santa Catarina — particularly in João Dias and Mato Baixo — rainfall reached around 277 liters of water per square meter, while São Miguel recorded 281 in four localities (Achada Cavalo, Barragem, Flamengo and Principal).
In the municipality of Tarrafal, rainfall levels ranged between 270 and 281, with 281 in Mato Mendes, and in Santa Cruz, in the area of Cancelo.
“Normally, readings of 250 are considered very heavy or torrential rainfall, according to the experts. This, of course, caused extensive damage to the roads, a very complex situation, but the Ministry of Infrastructure is already taking the necessary precautions,” he said, considering the situation one of “some vulnerability”, as it may lead to interruptions in circulation between the municipalities.
