Basketball: Federation President Rejects Accusations and Denounces “Illegal Attempt to Seize Power”

Praia City, Nov 10 (Inforpress) – The president of the Cabo Verdean Basketball Federation, Hélder Gonçalves, today rejected accusations made by national team players and denounced an “illegal campaign of destabilization,” assuring that he will remain in office until a court decision.

After the national team players released an open letter expressing “dissatisfaction and concern” with the current management of the Federation and denouncing flaws in preparation and participation in international competitions, Inforpress contacted the president for an official statement.

In an exclusive interview, Hélder Gonçalves said that the statements do not come from the athletes themselves but from people “trying to seize power by force.”

“From the beginning, we have been the target of constant attacks. A small group is illegally attempting to sabotage the leadership and create a negative image. But we remain calm, working according to the statutes and the law,” he declared.
