Maio: Craftsman calls for expansion and revitalization of the Calheta Crafts Center

Porto Inglês, Oct 23 (Inforpress) – Craftsman Manuel Silva today called for the expansion and revitalization of the Calheta Crafts Center, in order to give more dynamism to the space and encourage crafts on the island of Maio.

Manuel Silva, known locally as "Fogo Stan," said that the current conditions of the center, which opened in 2012, are not attractive to visitors, calling for its renovation so that it can fulfill its role on the island's tourist itinerary.

"The center has been awaiting a second phase for several years. We need to expand the space, build the roof, improve the electrical system, and open a store with a front entrance to attract visitors," Said the artisan.

However, it recognizes that, in addition to an inviting space, it is necessary to stimulate crafts on the island and encourage new artisans with training and incentives, since the number of artisans in this center has decreased from six to just one.
