Praia, Oct 2 (Inforpress) – The new president of the Electoral Census Commission of Praia, Manuel Teixeira, outlined as an immediate priority the streamlining of the voter registration process, with a focus on young people, to significantly increase the participation rate in the upcoming elections.
Manuel Teixeira, speaking to the press on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony, highlighted that the biggest challenge for the Electoral Census Commission of Praia (CRE) will be overcoming the low turnout, a problem that mainly affects the capital's young population.
"People don't really want to register, but we're going to have to work hard to make it happen, especially with the capital's youth," he said, considering the registration process "essential for the consolidation of democracy."
The official emphasized that the CRE intends to involve civil society, political parties and community associations to reach localities and citizens who are not yet registered.
