Porto Novo, Oct 1 (Inforpress) – The executive director of the Environment and Sustainable Development Association (Terrimar), based in Porto Novo, Silva Roque, said on Tuesday that she believes that the island of Santo Antão has the potential to be declared a world biosphere reserve.
This environmentalist, who was speaking at a meeting on tourism, promoted by the Porto Novo City Council, assured that the organization she leads will insist that "in the future" Santo Antão be declared a World Biosphere Reserve.
In fact, Silva Roque recalled that the business plan for protected areas in Cape Verde already included the idea of proposing the island of Santo Antão as a world biosphere reserve, which demonstrates that there is potential for this.
Therefore, Terrimar intends to "invest and commit to the process" so that this region can, in the future, achieve such status, the biologist assured.
