Praia, Aug 6 (Inforpress) - The Independent Health Regulatory Authority (ERIS) has banned, as of September 1, the use of the chemical ingredient Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide (TPO), widely used in gel nail polishes due to its ability to promote rapid drying.

According to ERIS, the measure follows the update of European Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, transposed into national legislation by the entity's board of directors' decision no. 02/2019.

TPO, he explained, was recently classified as a substance toxic to reproduction, category 1B, so, based on this classification, the ingredient was included in the European regulation that lists the components prohibited in cosmetics.

With the new regulations, the entity clarified, the use of the substance is no longer permitted even in concentrations previously authorized for professional applications, despite not being present in everyday cosmetics, such as creams and soaps.
