Lisbon, Jul 3 (Inforpress) - The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction on Wednesday in Lisbon (Portugal) with the success of Cape Verdeans in the diaspora, in areas such as science, medicine, academia, technology, politics, business, sport and culture.

Ulisses Correia e Silva, who was speaking at the gala dinner commemorating the 50th anniversary of Cabo Verde's independence on 5 July, recalled that Cape Verdeans had to emigrate during difficult periods in the archipelago's history for reasons of survival, referring to famine and drought.

"Nowadays we have a successful diaspora in science, medicine, academia, technology, politics, business, sport and culture. A diaspora that amplifies the human capital, the market and the financial capital available to the country," he said.

“A diaspora that invests not only in remittances, but also in blue and green bonds, the privatisation of companies, the blue economy and tourism. A hard-working diaspora that contributes to the economy of the countries where they live, in this case Portugal," added Correia e Silva.
